Mitchells Interview

An interview with Mitchells founder Rob Mitchell & ex-professional snowboarder
Ordering a Sangfroid 5 years ago.

He himself had started a new local business
In the Bone Broth Industry

Rob is known as one of the best in New Zealand.
It was good to catch up with him after a surf in the Mount. Rob also goes pretty big on waves - so the local say.

How has the active lifestyle & hard work put into snowboarding/surfing translated
into some of your work ethic getting Mitchell’s going & keeping at it?

When I was snowboarding full time we would leave the house before the sun was up and venture into the backcountry days on end, The boys would shovel jumps for sometimes 8 hours at a time then not even hit them that day because we were so tired, We would then come back the next day and if the stars aligned you would get a trick. It quite often wouldn't go that way though.

Business is very similar in many aspects to my snowboarding days, If you don't put effort in and if you're not fully committed and focused you are never going to get the results.

Starting out you had some stories about physically going to your suppliers & creating your own batches to make them perfect - can you elaborate a little?

Start up businesses are frickin tough, In the contract manufacturing space you get the same old story about volume "come and see us when you get the volume. Trial and error, perseverance, determination and not taking no for an answer from some *** ******* that owns everything are just a few things that might help.

Ultimately you have to really believe in the product you are selling and you will get there.

What inspires you about supporting the new guys/small businesses?

Through my travels and friend network I have met so many amazing people. At one stage or another these people were sliding, pushing, paddling around on boards in various shapes and forms.

As we have aged and moved into other parts of our lives these same people that I have connected with have gone on to create some amazing businesses, a lot of it stems back to rolling, sliding, paddling and I can't find a better way to spend my money than supporting these people.

What are your thoughts about time & Paceracer?

Time is something we all track and why not do it with a handmade watch made by Brett. Brett is a true creative on the board and in his studio creating Pacepacer watches and I am really looking forward to our next catch up over a cold one. Cheers mate
