A pace race

DEPTH & LONGEVITY

The ethos of the name is drawn from the event known as a pace race, where the objective is not to finish the fastest, but to finish in the best condition.

Each Paceracer watch becomes sentimental, made uniquely by hand, the final watch holds depth & longevity.

Detailed with a minimalist tradition of less is more, a holistic approach to timeless design & high-quality materials deliver an heirloom each time.

Paceracer has drawn attention from those with a minimalist taste that has been distilled over many years, from architects, doctors, surfers, entrepreneurs to adventurers.

Crafting fine mechanical timing objects to cherish over the decades & pass onwards.

In 2018 Paceracer became known to the public through a design award at the Best Awards.

The design ethos is to achieve beauty in raw simplicity.

The design process

BEGINS WITH A SKETCH

Precision tools are then used to refine the proportion & create the bespoke components. Finally, artisanal techniques complete each watch by hand. Taking pride in being a boutique watch designer & also manufacturing in New Zealand.

Values that are practiced in the design, theory & execution of watches are etiquette found in the creative arts. Progress, originality & technique. Its not what you do, but how you do it.

Designing every detail to every 100th of a millimeter from inception. Almost every step of the process uses custom tools designed for the particular task.

A moment of nostalgia

Paceracer came to be from a moment of nostalgia, by Industrial Designer & watchmaker Brett Band. A passion for design & manufacture grew from an early age with a fascination in materials & the art to refine them into fine & functional products.

The challenge of making a product from start to finish in New Zealand was spurred during a career as an Industrial Designer, working for a leading product design consultancy & heritage New Zealand local manufacturer. Seeing first hand the process to creating world class New Zealand products & inventions, as well as being a contributor to patented inventions, & design awards including Red-Dot, Chicago Good Design, Best Design Awards, Good Design Australia & more. Many of the products have been produced by mass production & are still in use today in New Zealand & offshore.

A stark contrast to now designing one-off custom design watches.

Prior to design, Brett spent time traveling, capturing moments through photography, looking back years later the nostalgia inspired the desire to create an object which transcended time & held elements of timeless minimalism as well as traits of tradition & handcraft from inspiration across the Globe.

“His mother was a dressmaker, and his father a bridge engineer, which explains the wonderful balance between detail and robustness in his watches.“ - Everyday-Needs Design Store
